Record Protection
APPX allows you to restrict the use of certain records by designating record protection fields at the file level. These fields are available when you select the record protection option from the Files/Fields screen.
The Delete Protection field governs whether or not a record can be deleted by a user within an input process. This field can be used to prevent the creation of orphan records by prohibiting the deletion of records referenced by other records anywhere in a database. You must explicitly maintain the value in this field.
The Key Protection field governs whether or not the primary key to the record can be modified by a user within an input process. This field can be used to maintain the integrity of a database by prohibiting the modification of keys referenced by other records anywhere in the database. You must explicitly maintain the value in this field.
The Record Access field contains a designer-designated security code that automatically restricts retrieval of a record (and by implication any field on a record) to those users with security profiles that include this code. If a user does not have access to a record, APPX responds as if the record is not on file. The value in this field must be maintained by the designer.
